Lone Star Cyclists Tours

Lone Star Cyclists is an organization of bicycling enthusiasts (solo, tandem, recumbent, E-bikes and touring riders) mainly from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. We are dedicated to the interests of recreational bicycling, bicycling safety, and camaraderie of the highest nature in our membership. We like to ride our bikes, get home in one piece, and seriously enjoy having fun.

As part of that, several of us enjoy going on bicycle tours. We think bicycle touring is a great way to see our world. We are planning multiple tours for the next several months. Some will be Bike Overnights and Three Day Weekend tours. These are fun to do but also a great way to introduce new people to bicycle touring.  Other tours will be one to two week tours. These will mostly be farther from home with the opportunity for more adventure.

If you like touring or want to give it a try please join us for one of our tours.

You do have to be a member of Lone Star Cyclists to participate. But that is easy to do.

Lone Star's C&O and GAP Bicycle Tour 2025

Hello Fellow Bikers.

On behalf of the Lone Star Cyclist Tour Committee, we would like to invite you to join us on our next adventure to ride the C&O Canal Towpath and Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) this fall. This journey from the forks of the Ohio River to the Potomac River has unparalleled biking adventure and has been called “an American classic”. Our trip will begin in Pittsburgh PA and end in Georgetown/Washington DC. Tentative dates are September 27 to October 3, 2025. Hopefully anyone that would like to spend an extra day or two can extend their time in Washington DC.

This will be an Inn-to-Inn trip (no camping) and vehicle supported which will carry your luggage to each nights' destination. The vehicle will not be able to provide full-service SAG responsibilities as it will not be able to travel the trails that we will be riding on. So you will be expected to complete each days route unassisted. Each of us will need to take turns driving the vehicle one day.

There will be 7 riding days and approximately 335 miles with an average of 47 miles per day. We will ride up to the Eastern Continental Divide but it is a long gentle ride. Then downhill to the end. The trails will be a combination of paved and unpaved surfaces and we do suggest bringing a gravel or touring bike or one that can accommodate 32 inch tires.

We ask that you earnestly consider joining us on this American classic bike route which is sure to be filled with fun and adventure. Please let Connie Wilson know of your intention to join us as we need to have a planning meeting with all those interested before the end of March, suggested date for the meeting is Thursday, March 20th at Connie's house at 6:30.
